DESCRIPTION OF ELLEN'S PRESENTATIONHave you ever struggled with trying to make sense of contemporary art? If so, you are not alone, and this lecture is for you. Using a chronological approach, this interactive lecture will present a historical overview of art as it progresses from modern to our contemporary time period. Giving a context and precedence for contemporary art helps to increase our understanding and appreciation for these sometimes-confounding works of art. Using various themes such as: appropriation, integration of time and text, and social justice, Ellen O. Nelson will present various works of art to help illuminate some of the questions and concerns explored by contemporary artists.Ellen O. Nelson is a Senior Master of the Arts at The Hill School and Coordinator of the Boyer Gallery. Nelson has been a member of the arts department since 1987. She has served as chair of the department and has taught multiple levels of studio art and art history. She is a respected juror for various art groups including the Philadelphia Water Color Society and the Chester County Art Association.
